Why study at KFS?
You could study film anywhere. Here is what KFS gives you.

A film school built around production
Your training is not separated from making. Production is part of the curriculum. You work through productions throughout your programme — not one film at the end of three years, but films throughout.
Productions are built into every year. Your portfolio grows semester by semester. You learn from every production. Theory is tested against practice.
A broad filmmaking education
Directing, Cinematography, Producing, Editing, Sound, Production design, Documentary, Acting, Film analysis, Animation, VFX, Photography.
You learn where your discipline sits within the whole film. You specialise — but you understand the whole. You learn to work across departments. You become useful on any set.
East Africa as a place of study
KFS is in Uganda. Students learn filmmaking inside the culture, histories, communities and creative industries they may ultimately work within.
The region is not simply where we are. It is part of what we study, observe, question and make. This means courses in African Cinema and Visual Anthropology, Documentary training grounded in research, Screenwriting rooted in lived experience. A curriculum that reflects the region.
A professional network
KFS connects students to working filmmakers, production companies, equipment partners, universities and other organisations.
Masterclasses, internships, productions, screenings and collaborations extend beyond the classroom. Named industry partners, Masterclasses with working professionals. Internships with production companies. Collaborations with regional and international institutions. A network that opens doors after graduation.
A body of work
Students leave with films and other creative work — not only classroom assignments. Completed films you can screen. Scripts you can share. Photographs you can publish. A production journal. A professional portfolio.
One became an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker.
More than 500 filmmakers have passed through KFS since 2009. Some work in production companies. Some work independently. Some work in broadcasting. Some make documentaries. Some direct, some shoot, some produce, some edit. Some work across several disciplines.
One became an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker.
There is no single path out of KFS. The career is built on the work you do. But the school is where it begins.
