Industry & Partnerships
Film school should connect to filmmaking. KFS builds those connections through industry partners, productions, internships, masterclasses, equipment partners, universities, creative organisations and professional networks.

Industry partners
KFS works with organisations including:

Cinema Gear House

Magic Films Uganda Limited

Uganda Poetry Society

BDK Foundation
The nature of collaboration varies. Some partnerships provide equipment and technical exposure. Others create production opportunities, professional connections, events or wider creative collaboration.
- Access to professional equipment
- Opportunities on real productions
- Professional connections
- Events with industry professionals
- Pathways into the industry
International collaboration
KFS collaborates with institutions across the region and internationally.
Northumbria University, United Kingdom — connecting KFS students and staff to an international film education network.
AIB, Germany — international academic and creative collaboration.
KFS also works with other universities, institutions and creative partners where opportunities arise.
- International academic exchanges
- Cross-border creative collaboration
- Exposure to international film education
- Opportunities to study and work beyond Uganda
Masterclasses
KFS brings working practitioners into the school for specialist sessions, discussions and practical learning. Recent guests and collaborators have included:
- Damien Poland — led a masterclass on Bill Nichols’ introduction to documentary and the six modes of documentary filmmaking
- Théodelrose
- Dan Moss — director of Imperial Blue
Masterclasses connect classroom learning to professional practice. They allow students to ask the questions that arise when theory meets an actual career.
- Direct access to working professionals
- Sessions on specific crafts
- Q&A with practitioners
- Networking opportunities
- Insight into industry practice
Production experience
KFS students have participated in real productions. In 2019, students took part in the production project that became Imperial Blue, working alongside experienced filmmakers and crew. The experience exposed students to the demands of feature-film production.
This matters because professional filmmaking cannot be fully simulated. There is a difference between a classroom exercise and a production with real deadlines, real people, real locations and real consequences.
- Experience on real productions
- Understanding of professional workflows
- Contact with professional crews
- Portfolio credits on real films
- Insight into industry demands
Industrial training
Students undertake internships and industrial training as part of their professional development. The objective is to move students beyond simulated professional environments and into actual working contexts.
- Placements with production companies
- Placements with broadcasters
- Placements with creative organisations
- Real working environments
- Professional references
Career opportunities
KFS alumni work across film, television, documentary, commercials, production, broadcasting, photography, digital media and the wider creative economy.
The school provides a starting point. The career is built through the work.
- Production companies
- Broadcasters
- Agencies
- Independent film production
- Documentary production
- Freelance work across the region
Film school should connect to filmmaking.
